Computers for Kids

E-mail Print PDF

Shomron Mayor Gershon Mesika is working to close the “digital divide” by providing youngsters with home PCs with which to equalize their educational opportunities. Without help outside, the future for these kids would look bleak. Unable to purchase a home PC because of economic reasons, they would, in all probability, fall behind in their assignments which require Internet based research, and attain lower passing grades. Worst yet, it would lower their expectations towards moving on to higher education, while lowering their sense of self-esteem.

Did you know?

Over 2 Million Computers are thrown into landfills each Month, and in five years that number will reach 5 Million

Computer Equipment Donations

By donating your old computers your business or organization could:

1. Help underprivileged children gain computer access at home

2. Use your donation as a qualified tax deduction.

3. Address the growing problem of older computer systems being needlessly discarded to the landfill or shelved and unused in warehouse space.

Donating used or overstocked computer equipment and software to the children of the Shomron, can make a difference to you, ~the bottom line ~as all donations are tax deductible for both companies and individuals. President Clinton passed the 21st Century Classroom Act in 1997, where corporations donating computers less than two years old are now able to take a charitable donation equal to the original purchase price of the equipment.
We strive to level the playing field, and give these very capable youngsters hope for a better future. The idea is to expose students to technology, help them improve academically, and give them a feeling of empowerment and accomplishment. A student helped today could be a leader of tomorrow.

Volunteers are essential for the success of our goals. We need your help in contacting potential sponsors, researching, grant writing, refurbishing computers and installing software, working with kids, community groups, and writing news releases. We can arrange a schedule to match your needs. Join us in reducing the digital divide that exists in our community.
